Professor Suheil Badi Bushrui is a distinguished author, poet, critic, translator, and media personality who is well known in the United States, Europe and the Arab world. From 1992 until 2005, Professor Bushrui held the Bahá’ì Chair for World Peace, which he founded and established. In addition to raising over three million dollars during his tenure, he also achieved both national and international recognition for the Chair, and initiated a number of different projects at national and international levels. At present, Professor Bushrui is the Director of the Kahlil Gibran Chair for Values and Peace in the Center for Heritage Resource Studies at the University of Maryland. Professor Bushrui was appointed as an Affiliate Faculty member with the University of Maryland’s School of Public Affairs in 1999; in 2004, he was saked to serve as an Affiliate Faculty member with the University of Maryland’s Center for Heritage Resource studies, an interdisciplinary program which promotes the study of culture, architecture and archeology. Most recently, in 2006, Professor Bushrui was invited to be a Senior Scholar with the Center for International Development and Conflict Management and with the Academy of Leadership … (on academy.umd.edu).

… In 2006, Professor Bushrui had the privilege of editing with Professor David Cadman a volume entitled Selected Speeches and Articles of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales; and in June 2007, he contributed to a special book submitted to the G-8 Summit meeting entitled The Power of Dignity—Rethinking Globalization. In addition to other books (both Arabic and English) not listed here, Professor Bushrui is the author of numerous scholarly articles on topics such as literature, religion, inter-cultural communication, conflict resolution, and global issues. … Bushrui not only publishes widely, but also maintains a full schedule presenting lectures at international conferences, scholarly seminars, literary gatherings, and student-organized events at the University of Maryland and other local, national, and international campuses. Professor Bushrui is an active participant in many international organizations dedicated to the promulgation of peace and conflict resolution. He is a founding member of the International Dialogue on Transition to a Global Society. He also serves on the Board of Governors of The Temple of Understanding, a world-wide interfaith organization which is an affiliate of the United Nations, and he is an International Fellow of the Temenos Academy in London.
