Rodolfo Stavenhagen is special rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous Peoples. Rodolfo Stavenhagen, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous people. He highlighted development projects that had impinged on indigenous rights, forcing indigenous people to move elsewhere, struggling for their cultural and economic survival. Noting that such projects had negatively affected the long-term health of indigenous peoples, and even led to violence, he added that solutions must be found for those and other issues. Rodolfo Stavenhagen – Mexico
Prof. Stavenhagen was at the forefront in advancing an awareness of problems revolving around human rights, an issue about which we now hear a great deal. In fact, he was the founder and first president of the Mexican Academy of Human Rights. He served on the board of the National Commission of Human Rights and has served as a consultant to the United Nations, UNICEF, and the Inter- American Commission on Human Rights. … on October, 2003 … the UN Special Rapporteur visits Samiland, and naturally the Sami people had great expectations to his visit. Stavenhagen visited Norway in order to attend the Forum conference 2003, invited by the University of Tromsø and particularly by the Centre for Sami Studies. In french: Né en 1932, citoyen mexicain, a fait ses études universitaires au Mexique, aux États-Unis et en France, où il a fait un Doctorat de Troisième Cycle à l’EPHE, sous la direction du Pr. Georges Balandier.
Il est professeur de sociologie à l’Université Nationale Autonome du Mexique depuis 1956, et a enseigné également à l’Institut d’Études du Développement Économique et Social de l’Université de Paris (1960-61) et à l’Université Catholique de Rio de Janeiro (1962).
